JOIN A UNIFIED VOICE FOR ORGANIC INTEGRITY

Where organic advocacy is grounded in values, not industry pressure — for 20+ years.

The organic movement has never been needed more — or more under pressure. Consumer demand is growing while USDA staffing cuts, funding freezes, potential regulatory rollbacks, and loss of organic acreage and family-scale farms are threatening the future of organic. We must build on what we’ve created, not see it torn down. Joining NOC means being part of a coalition fighting to protect organic integrity and to push toward what's possible.

What makes us different

  • Buffered from competing interests: Conventional agribusinesses do not participate in our coalition or influence our policy positions.

  • A collaborative effort: Operating by consensus, farmer organizations, consumer groups, and environmental advocates have a strong and equal voice alongside organic businesses.

  • Nimble and responsive: Our small size is a superpower. Our responsiveness to our members means we can act to address emergent issues.

  • Deep policy expertise: Decades of organic-specific federal policy experience on staff with a DC-based Policy Director. Lawyers, scientists, policy experts, certifiers, retailers, and grassroots organizers add to the conversation as part of the coalition.

  • Uncompromising on organic’s core values: We uphold the values that define organic—health, ecology, and equity—while leading proactive efforts to build a more powerful movement and a more resilient future.

  • 20+ years in the arena: From the 1990 Organic Foods Production Act to the 2018 Farm Bill to recent finalized regulations, NOC’s members and affiliates have been there to uphold organic’s core values since the beginning.

two ways to engage — both built to make your advocacy more informed, more connected, and more effective.

There is one interest form, the Network Affiliate Interest form, with an option to indicate interest in full membership. Most organizations and companies join as a Network Affiliate first, and NOC works with them to determine if and when full membership is the right next step. Both pathways give you access to NOC expertise and tools for organic advocacy. The difference is depth of engagement and governance responsibility.

14 Members. 40+ Network Affiliates.

Farmers, certifiers, retailers, consumer advocates, environmental groups, and organic companies all working together under a shared commitment to organic integrity.

Annual Contribution

Network Affiliates and Members make an annual financial contribution to NOC. The levels below are recommended guidelines. If your organization is able to contribute at a higher level, we encourage it — those contributions directly support our capacity to advance organic integrity and ensure resource-limited organizations can participate.

Our philosophy is simple: no one should be excluded from participation on the basis of ability to pay. If you'd like to join but can't meet these guidelines, please reach out directly.

NETWORK AFFILIATE Dues

  • Farm $100 - $500

  • Non-Profit $500 - $2,000

  • Company $1,000 - $10,000

Member Dues

Member dues are determined through the NOC governance process. Contact Abby to discuss →

COMMON QUESTIONS

  • No — there's one interest form, the Network Affiliate form, with an option to indicate interest in full membership. Membership is developed in partnership with NOC over time. Fill out the form and we'll go from there.

  • Members are the core governance body of NOC — they set policy priorities through a consensus process, serve on the Board, participate in working groups, and are formally represented in NOC's lobbying with USDA and Congress. Network Affiliates receive NOC's resources, updates, and tools to strengthen their own advocacy, but are not required to support all NOC positions and are not represented by NOC in lobbying. See the full slide deck for more detail →

  • No. Network Affiliates are not required to support all NOC positions and are not represented by NOC in lobbying activities. The Network Affiliate relationship is designed to support your own advocacy capacity, not bind you to ours.

That said, NOC prides itself on its commitment to its community agreements and core organic values. As part of the process of joining, NOC and its board will review your organization’s values and work.

  • Contact us directly. We want to make participation possible for entities that share our values, regardless of budget. Reach Abby at abby@nationalorganiccoalition.org.

  • We encourage you to contact us to discuss what level of engagement is right. Reach out to abby@nationalorganiccoalition.org to talk through how best we might be able to work together to power the organic movement.

Also make sure to subscribe to our email list for regular policy updates and information on events open to the public.

  • We will review the interest form and will work with our board to determine next steps. NOC is committed to ensuring Members and Network Affiliates are values-aligned and share common beliefs related to upholding organic integrity that supports family-scale farms. If it seems we are in alignment, it is likely we will schedule a call to further discuss your interest in NOC, how we might work together effectively, any questions you have, and what payment level is appropriate.
