Jay dedicated himself to finding solutions to pesticide problems after working with farmworkers and small farmers through an EPA grant in 1978 to the national advocacy organization Rural America (1977-1981), where he helped to develop the first EPA worker protection standard. Since that time, Jay has coordinated the building of Beyond Pesticides' capacity to assist local groups and impact national and state pesticide and organic policy. He has tracked specific chemical effects, regulatory actions, pesticide law, and organic standards and policy, including allowable materials in organic-certified and labeled food production and processing. A long-standing member of the International Organic Inspectors Association (IOIA), she has worked extensively as an organic auditor and organic agriculture advisor. Angela served for 10 years as a lead auditor for IOAS, supporting organic integrity on a global scale. In addition to her work in inspection and certification, she spent a decade as an agriculture educator and faculty member at a local community college, helping shape the next generation of sustainable farmers. She also served as Quality Manager for the Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA) and now continues to support its mission as a Farmer Ambassador. Noah graduated from Iowa State University in 2000 with a major in Ag Business and a minor in International Ag. After graduating ISU he worked in the industry for Cargill until late 2001. Noah learned several fundamental business skills throughout his experience working with Cargill. However, his heart was still in production agriculture. After leaving Cargill he moved on to work for some farmers in Central Iowa and participated in the wheat run throughout Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota for four years. In 2006 Noah started farming together with Caleb Akin, forming A&W Farms. From 2006 to 2015 A&W Farms was able to build a successful farming operation as first-generation farmers. In 2015 they decided to begin the aggressive transition from conventional to organic production. Since 2015 Noah and Caleb have transitioned over half of their 3000 acres to organic production. Their passion for caring for the land and providing a safe food supply continues to be the driving force in their organic production. Organic crops include corn, soybeans, sunflowers, oats, wheat, hemp, and field peas. With little knowledge of farming, they began their adventure by certifying their first part of the farm in 2015 and the remaining ground in 2018. They focus on soil health, crop rotation, cover crops and trying to incorporate their cattle herd into the rotations. Steve is a board member of Central Plains Organic Farmers Association (CPOFA) and President of Organic Farmers Agency for Relationship Marketing (OFARM). Their farm was purchased by Steve’s great grandfather in 1903 and is named E & V Peeks Family Farm after his grandparents. They are honored to play their part in preserving their slice of the valley from one generation to the next, and they aim to protect the family-farm tradition, promote the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model and produce uncommonly delicious and nutritious food. Wild Hare is open year-round with a CSA membership of 200-350, depending on the season, and those members almost entirely pick up on farm every week. Kat has been farming on her own operations since 2006 and has maintained organic transitions and organic records since that time. John has loved dairy farming his whole life, and always wanted to be an Organic Valley farmer. He got his first jersey cow at age 13 and grew the herd from there. After a few years he needed a new facility to accolade his expanding herd of cows. John had always loved Wisconsin and started looking for a farm there. In early 2019, John connected with an Organic Valley farmer in Wisconsin looking to retire. Later that year, He uprooted his life in his home state of Ohio and moved to Wisconsin at the age of 21 and hasn’t looked back since. John is passionate about organic dairy and the integrity of the organic label, as well as being as efficient as possible, both in labor and record keeping, as he is the only labor unit on his farm. John utilizes various software and mobile apps to make organic record keeping as efficient as possible. Prior to joining NYU in 2010, Dr. Dimitri spent more than a decade as a research economist at the USDA’s Economic Research Service, where she authored numerous reports on the organic sector, including consumer attitudes and expectations. She currently serves on the National Organic Standards Board, bringing expertise in organic standards, National List materials, and public policy.
